Secret Invasion is Marvel's summer event book this year with issue one detailing the invasion Brian Michael Bendis and the Skrulls have been plotting for years now, and what a first issue it is. Getting off to a quick start and bolsted by what I think is Leinil Francis Yu's best artwork to date, it does a good job of getting a reader excited for the rest of the series.

Action Comics #866 (Geoff Johns, Gary Frank) Sunday, 15 June 2008 | sinosleepAction Comics #866 marks the return of Gary Frank to the title after two issues away and the beginning of the much anticipated Brainiac arc. It also marks only the 7th issue of a comic book starring the Man of Steel in my life. The other six were the previous collaboration between Geoff Johns and Gary Frank, Action Comics #858 -863. Captain Britain and the MI13 #1 (Paul Cornell, Leonard Kirk)Friday, 13 June 2008 | sinosleepCaptain Britain and the MI13 by Paul Cornell and Leonard Kirk is easily the best Secret Invasion tie-in that Marvel is putting out. Cornell does a good job of balancing humor and drama in an issue where he makes it perfectly clear that this is going to be an uphill battle for Captain Britain and crew and Kirk continues to shoot up my favorite artists list with very good pencils. + Full Story |
Secret Invasion #2 (Brian Michael Bendis, Leinil Francis Yu)Monday, 09 June 2008 | sinosleepSecret Invasion #2 picks up right where #1 left us, with two sets of Avengers just itching to beat the snot out of each other. Leinil Francis Yu's artwork maintains the level of quality that was established in the first issue and Brian Michael Bendis knocks it out of the park again. It doesn't quite reach the bar set by the first issue but it comes pretty close and is certainly a solid read. + Full Story |
